Facelift in Bryn Mawr and Philadelphia

Plastic Surgeon & Medical Spa Serving Bryn Mawr, Villanova & Communities Near The Main Line Of Philadelphia, PA

Often, signs of aging are most prominent and pronounced in the facial region. As we get older, we will all inevitably experience some degree of fine lines, sagging and facial wrinkles. If you’d like to reverse these signs of aging and restore a more youthful appearance, a facelift can help you achieve your goals.

A facelift is a procedure that involves lifting sagging skin on the face so that it appears firmer and tighter. This has a simultaneous effect of smoothing fine lines and wrinkles. While there are many nonsurgical facial rejuvenation treatments that can effectively help you turn back the clock, the facelift is still unrivaled in its ability to deliver highly customizable, long term results that can make you look as much as 10-15 years younger.

Facelifts are one of the most common procedures we perform at Main Line Plastic Surgery, as this type of facial plastic surgery is highly sought after by men and women alike. You can receive individualized treatment recommendations by speaking with Dr. Raymond Jean in person. Please Text or Call today to schedule a consultation. We serve patients in Bryn Mawr, Villanova and throughout the Main Line of Philadelphia.

What Can a Facelift Accomplish?

If you feel like your face could convey more of the youthful energy you possess, then the rejuvenating effects of a facelift may be able to help you look and feel your best. Dr. Jean can perform a facelift to help you address a wide range of aesthetic concerns, including:

  • Jowls
  • Lines extending down from the corners of your mouth (marionette lines)
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Sagging facial skin and muscles
  • Sagging in the mid-face region
  • Fallen fat and tissue
  • Banding in the neck region
  • Deep creases across the face
  • Hollows underneath the eyes

While nonsurgical options such as dermal fillers can restore lost volume and improve the appearance of mild to moderate wrinkles, only a facelift can target sagging tissue in order to correct these other signs of aging.

Am I a Candidate for a Facelift?

In general, you are most likely a good facelift candidate if you:

  • Are in good overall health
  • Have realistic expectations for the outcome of your procedure
  • Would like to reverse one or more of the facial aging signs listed above
  • Desire highly customized, long-lasting facial rejuvenation results
  • Do not smoke or are willing to quit prior to your procedure and throughout the recovery period (smoking can adversely impact healing and final results)

Often Dr. Jean will recommend a neck lift in conjunction with a facelift for enhanced results. This is particularly effective if you are trying to eliminate jowls or significant banding in the neck region. Dr. Jean offers the Precision TX neck lift, a procedure that uses laser energy to melt fat beneath the surface of the skin and stimulate collagen production. This minimally invasive treatment produces excellent results for men and women with excess fat and moderately loose skin in the neck region.

It’s important to understand that a facelift focuses on the middle and lower portions of your face. If you would like to reverse the signs of aging around the eyes or in the forehead region, Dr. Jean may recommend one or more of the following procedures:

Your Customized Facelift Procedure

Your facial features are truly unique. In order to achieve beautiful, natural looking results that highlight your best attributes, Dr. Jean will develop a customized treatment plan that targets the specific signs of aging you are experiencing. There are several different techniques that may be used depending on your unique needs and goals:

  • Full facelift – This technique will rejuvenate the entire facial region
  • Mid facelift – This technique primarily focuses on the center of your face, including the cheeks
  • Mini facelift – This is an excellent option if you are just starting to experience the early signs of aging and don’t require a full facelift

Dr. Jean will perform your facelift on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia. Incisions are made either in your hairline, behind the ears, or at the temples. Excess skin, fat, and other tissue that has “stretched” over time is trimmed away, then pulled tight and attached with dissolvable stitches. This causes your face to appear firmer and more uplifted, while at the same time keeping any scars hidden as discreetly as possible.

Mid Facelift

As you age, your cheeks may sag and flatten due to a loss in volume. A mid facelift raises the malar fat pad in the cheeks, allowing them to appear more graceful and curved, much like they did when you were younger. It has the added benefit of “filling in” the hollows underneath the eyes, something that can rarely be addressed through a traditional facelift.

This procedure will rejuvenate the area extending from your lower eyelids to the corners of your mouth. Dr. Jean may recommend this technique to address:

  • Deep lines near the corners of the nose
  • Deep wrinkles across the cheeks
  • Sagging cheeks
  • Lost definition in the jawline

Mini Facelift

A mini facelift is a procedure that “lifts” only the bottom portion of your face. It targets the area from the top of your cheekbones to your chin, eliminating sagging cheeks and smile or laugh lines around the mouth. Since it is slightly less invasive than a full facelift, it requires less anesthesia and downtime.

You may be a good candidate for a mini facelift if you are primarily noticing signs of aging on your lower face or are already correcting forehead wrinkles with BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dysport. Some patients choose a mini facelift because they only have moderate signs of aging and feel that they are not yet ready for a full facelift.

Dr. Jean will inject a numbing agent into your skin so that your entire face is numb. He will then make incisions in an inconspicuous area (typically in your hairline) so that he can pull your skin, fat, and muscles tight. The procedure ends with stitches and a gauze bandage to keep the area clean and free of infection.

Recovery after a Facelift

Due to the lingering effects of the anesthesia, you’ll need to arrange for someone to drive you home after surgery. You should also have someone in the house to assist you during the first day of your recovery.

Dr. Jean recommends that you plan ahead in order to make the first few days of your recovery as comfortable as possible. Before your procedure, you should:

  • Fill all prescriptions and pick up any over-the-counter pain medications recommended by Dr. Jean.
  • Make sure you have plenty of soft, easily chewable foods around the house to eat during the first few days of recovery. You may even want to prepare a few meals in advance that you can just reheat after surgery.
  • Pick up some movies or audiobooks that you can enjoy while you are resting during the early stages of your recovery.

While the specific timeline of your recovery will depend on the technique used for your facelift and your body’s healing ability, most patients typically experience a two-week recovery period. During this time, you may experience mild bruising and swelling.

Avoid sun exposure, including tanning beds, for approximately two weeks following surgery. Use a cold compress to treat swelling and bruising, and take the pain medication prescribed by Dr. Jean if you need help managing your discomfort.

You will also need to keep your head elevated to help reduce swelling. However, you’ll want to avoid using big pillows that force your neck to bend forward. Instead, place a small towel roll underneath your neck.

You should be able to resume normal activities after about two weeks, but you’ll need to refrain from exercise and other strenuous activities until Dr. Jean tells you it is safe to resume them.

Facelift Results

It can take several months before your final results are noticeable. This is due to some residual swelling that may take a little longer to subside. Once this occurs, you may find that you look significantly younger (as much as 10 or more years in some instances). Although you will continue to age, you will do so from a younger base and can expect to appear more youthful for some time to come.

Your results should last a long time. Many of our facelift patients find that it may take as long as 10 years before they begin to notice sagging and other signs of aging return. The exact length of time will vary based on the extensiveness of your facial aging at the time of surgery, the technique used for your procedure, genetics and your lifestyle.

Facelift Cost Bryn Mawr

The cost of a facelift varies based on a variety of factors including the technique used and whether you are experiencing early or more advanced signs of facial aging. During your consultation, Dr. Jean will be able to give you a cost estimate based on the treatment plan he recommends for you.

At Main Line Plastic Surgery, we are committed to making sure you can fit your desired procedure into your budget. We offer a variety of financing options, including no-interest and low-interest financing plans. During your consultation, our staff will review these options with you in detail.

What People Say About Us!

Approximately 8 months ago I had a Facelift, Neck Lift and Brow Lift with Dr. Jean. To say I am very pleased with my results is an understatement. I am 60 years old and my main concern was addressing my sagging face and neck before my daughter’s wedding. From my initial consultation to each follow up appointment, I couldn’t have had a better experience. Dr. Jean’s bedside manner, thoroughness and unparalleled skill throughout the entire process confirmed that I chose the best surgeon to perform my procedure. My scars faded nicely and are at this point barely visible. I look 10 years younger and my confidence is restored!
