Both of these treatments involve the injection of specific amounts of botulinum toxin. Although BOTOX® and Dysport® are different formulations and consistencies of the primary active ingredient, they both work by blocking the signals sent to facial muscles that cause them to contract and create creases in the skin.
If too much of these are injected into the treated areas, it can lead to a “frozen” appearance as the muscles that show expression are not allowed to contract. Depending on the area treated and the muscle targeted, your doctor will adjust the amount injected to find the perfect balance between not allowing the muscle to contract while still allowing facial expressions.
As the results of these treatments are temporary and follow-up sessions are required to maintain the same appearance, it may seem easier to just use more in each injection. However, many patients will see the results last longer after each follow-up session as the muscles slowly lose strength. This will allow you to go longer between sessions and require fewer injections to see the same result.
Dr. Jean has the experience and knowledge in these treatments to know where best to inject the formula, and exactly how much to use. You will be able to achieve the results you want while still able to show expressions.
Don’t let the fear of a frozen appearance keep you from seeing the great results possible with BOTOX® or Dysport® treatments. Dr. Jean will work with you and your specific conditions and develop the perfect aesthetic plan to meet your goals.
