What Can I Expect at My First Dermal Filler Appointment?

Rejuvenating facial injections procedure for tightening and smoothing wrinkles Deciding to get dermal fillers is a big step. Even though the procedure itself is minimally invasive and takes just a few minutes, your first appointment can feel somewhat intimidating. When you choose an experienced provider, you can feel much more confident in your decision. Our patients enjoy the rejuvenating effects that they achieve in a brief visit to our comfortable office. We know that you can enjoy outstanding benefits, too. But first, we want to set the stage so you know what to expect at your first dermal filler appointment.

Your Consultation

Nonsurgical treatments receive the same degree of consideration and time as our surgical procedures. To get the best results, your provider must truly understand what you want to achieve as well as what you may want to avoid. For example, lip enhancement continues to be a very popular treatment, but patients tend to want to avoid an over-filled “duck-lip” outcome. During your consultation for dermal fillers, expect to have a thorough discussion about the details of the proposed treatment area and how it can be brought into harmony with other features.

Your Treatment

In many cases, dermal filler treatment can be performed right after our consultation. This is entirely up to you. We want our patients to move forward with treatment only when they are absolutely sure they are ready. If you are after our conversation about your desired outcome and how we can achieve it, then your provider may take only 15 to 20 minutes to address your concerns and goals. One of the brightest points of dermal filler treatment is that you’ll see your results immediately.

Your Recovery

When you visit a skilled injector for dermal filler treatment, you may have very subtle side effects if any at all. The most common side effects of injectables include pinpoint redness and swelling. These can last up to two days but usually resolve within 12 hours of treatment. During that time, it can be beneficial to avoid strenuous activity and excessive heat. You should also avoid touching the treatment area for approximately 24 hours. This allows the filler to integrate fully into the target tissue.
