IDEAL IMPLANT vs. Saline Breast Implants

Traditionally, there were only two breast implant options available – saline implants and silicone implants. However, several new options have been developed in recent years, giving you more choices than ever when planning your breast augmentation. One of the newest options available is the IDEAL IMPLANT®. It essentially blends many of the beneficial qualities of saline and silicone breast implants, providing an excellent solution for women who prefer a saline-based breast implant but also want a more natural look than traditional saline implants achieve.

What is the IDEAL IMPLANT®?

The IDEAL IMPLANT is a multi-chambered saline breast implant. This essentially creates an implant within an implant. There are several shells inside the outer breast implant shell, which disrupts the flow of saline solution in a way that causes the implant to more closely mimic the properties of a silicone gel breast implant.

The primary benefit of choosing an IDEAL IMPLANT over a traditional saline breast implant is that it achieves more natural looking and feeling results. In addition, the risk of rippling is much lower than with a traditional saline breast implant, and IDEAL IMPLANTS possess the lowest rupture rate of any breast implant option.

It’s important to understand that this option comes close to mimicking the natural results achieved by silicone and cohesive gel implants, but it doesn’t provide quite as natural of a look and feel as these silicone-based breast implant options. If your primary goal is to achieve the most natural looking and feeling results possible, you should choose a silicone or cohesive gel implant.

Similarities between Saline Implants and IDEAL IMPLANTS

breast implantIDEAL IMPLANTS and traditional saline breast implants both deflate in the event of a rupture. As a result, you will know about the rupture immediately. This eliminates the need for the periodic MRIs that are required with silicone and cohesive gel breast implants that retain their shape after a rupture.

In addition to deflating after a rupture, IDEAL IMPLANTS are similar to traditional saline breast implants in several ways:

  • Both options have a round shape, eliminating the abnormal shape that occurs when a teardrop-shaped silicone breast implant rotates
  • The saline solution is filled after the implant is inserted into your breast, so both of these options allow for a smaller incision (and smaller scar) than is possible with silicone breast implants
  • Because the implants are filled after being inserted into your breast, Dr. Jean can more effectively correct breast asymmetry than is possible with silicone implants

Are there Any Drawbacks to the IDEAL IMPLANT?

The primary drawback to the IDEAL IMPLANT involves cost. It is significantly more expensive than traditional saline breast implants. Another potential drawback is that there are fewer plastic surgeons who have experience working with this implant option. Therefore, it’s crucial that you find a plastic surgeon who has extensive experience using the IDEAL IMPLANT, such as Dr. Jean.

In general, the IDEAL IMPLANT will provide you with a much more natural looking and feeling outcome than saline breast implants, making it a solution worth considering if you prefer to use a saline-based implant. During your initial consultation, Dr. Jean can discuss the pros and cons of each option in detail to help you make the right decision for your unique needs and goals.
