Breast Implants in Philadelphia, PA
After deciding to get breast implants, the next decision you will face is what type. Here at Main Line Plastic Surgery, we provide patients in Philadelphia, Bryn Mawr, Bala Cynwyd and other nearby cities in Pennsylvania plenty of options, ensuring they are completely satisfied with their procedure.
What are Breast Implants?
Breast implants are pre-formed shells that are filled with a liquid or gel and then placed inside the breast in order to increase its size. There are three primary types of breast implants:
- Silicone, which is filled with a silicone gel material
- Saline, which contains a salt water or saline solution
- Gummy bear, a type that contains a somewhat thicker gel solution than traditional silicone, being approximately the same consistency as a gummy bear candy
In addition to the various types, two different shapes are available: round and teardrop. Both also come in four different profiles: low, medium, high, and extra high. The higher the profile, the greater the projection of the breasts will be.
Am I a Good Candidate for Breast Implants?
You may be a good candidate for breast implants if you are healthy enough for surgery and have reasonable expectations as to what you can achieve through breast augmentation surgery.
Planning your Breast Implant Surgery
General anesthesia is used during breast implant surgery, so you will naturally require a longer recovery time. As such, you should schedule your procedure for a time when you can take it easy afterwards.
How are Breast Implants Performed?
A pocket of tissue is created for the implant to sit in. This may be:
- Sub-glandular, or on top of the pectoral muscle and behind breast tissue
- Sub-muscular, or underneath the pectoral muscle
The exact placement will depend on a number of factors such as the size and type of implants and your own anatomy. Once the implant is placed, internal tissues are then stitched together to hold it in place. Sutures are used to close the outer skin; a drainage tube may also be added to reduce fluid buildup.
Breast Implant Removal
Not all of our patients who are seeking breast implant surgery desire an augmentation, as many would like to have their existing implants removed. Some of these women have decided they no longer desire implants, while others may want them removed for health reasons or because they wish to replace them with bigger or smaller implants. Regardless of your reasons for wanting a breast implant removal, this is something we can easily accomplish here at Main Line Plastic Surgery.
To perform a breast implant removal, Dr. Jean will make an incision along your breast, allowing him to gain access to the implant. Whenever possible, this incision will be made in the same location as before so that no additional scars are produced. Next, he will either sew your internal tissues closed or place new implants into the pocket that was previously created. Your outer tissues will then be closed with staples or dissolvable stitches.

CareCredit® works like a credit card, offering low-interest rates and easily affordable payments to help you afford breast implants on your terms.
